Soft Tissue Filler Injections
Soft tissue fillers are specialised gels made from hyaluronic acid. They are used to immediately replace volume in areas of the face where deeper tissue volume loss has caused changes in appearance.
Soft tissue fillers have a specific place in aesthetic treatments, and when used correctly they produce fantastic results. However they are not always right for everyone, and so all our soft tissue filler treatments require an initial consultation to ensure this is the right treatment for you.
Soft tissue fillers are for people who are suffering from the effects of mild to moderate volume loss who feel they can tolerate injections deeper under the skin.
We cannot provide soft tissue fillers to anyone who:
- is under 25 years of age
- has a history of bee or wasp sting allergy
- is pregnant
- has a history of adverse reactions to soft tissue fillers
- does not think they will be able to tolerate the injections
A consultation is carried out to ensure that soft tissue fillers are the right treatment for you.
The amount and type of filler used will depend on the area being treated and the volume deficit.
Treatment involves injecting the filler directly into the area being treated. Anaesthetic numbing cream may be applied beforehand as some discomfort is usually experienced.
The skin area being treated should be clean and clear.
Ideally you should choose a time that allows you to return home in the hours after treatment.
Written aftercare advice is provided at the end of the appointment.
A few days of swelling, mild tenderness and bruising should be anticipated when planning the timing of your treatment. You will need to observe good skin hygiene practices in the days after treatment, and you may need to use simple pain relief (e.g. paracetamol) during this time.
Once swelling has settled you get a better appreciation of your results.
