MOXI is a non-ablative fractional laser used to improve uneven texture, diffuse pigmentation and visible sun damage.
Its 1927 nm wavelength creates microscopic treatment zones within the skin, prompting the renewal of damaged cells while leaving surrounding tissue intact to support recovery.
What does MOXI treat?
MOXI can be used across a broad range of skin tones. Its intensity is adjusted according to the condition of the skin, the treatment area and the degree of correction required. It may be used for early changes in skin quality or as a corrective course for more established photoageing.
MOXI may also form part of a treatment plan for melasma. This requires accurate assessment because melasma behaves differently from ordinary sun damage and can be aggravated by unsuitable treatment.
Where BBL HEROic primarily targets appropriate brown pigmentation and vascular redness, MOXI works fractionally across the treatment area to improve texture and broader skin quality. They can be used independently or during the same appointment when both colour and texture require treatment.

How MOXI works
MOXI delivers 1927 nm laser energy in a fractional pattern. Rather than treating the entire skin surface, it creates microscopic treatment zones surrounded by untreated tissue.
The laser energy is absorbed primarily by water within the skin rather than directly targeting melanin or haemoglobin. Over the following days, damaged cells move towards the surface and shed naturally. The skin initially feels dry and textured before appearing smoother and more even.
Treatment intensity can be adjusted according to skin tone, treatment area and the changes being addressed. This allows MOXI to be used for lighter maintenance treatment or as part of a more corrective course.
What MOXI may improve
Uneven texture & visible pores
MOXI supports surface renewal and can improve skin that feels rough or uneven. As treatment progresses, the surface can feel smoother and visible pores may become less noticeable.
Diffuse pigmentation and sun damage
MOXI is particularly useful when sun damage affects a wider area rather than appearing only as isolated brown marks. It can improve uneven tone while addressing accompanying changes in texture.
Distinct sun spots may respond more directly to BBL HEROic. Where both concerns are present, the treatments may be combined.
Fine lines and photoageing
Cumulative sun exposure can contribute to dullness, early fine lines and a gradual deterioration in skin quality. MOXI may improve these changes progressively as treated cells clear and the skin renews.
Melasma and post-inflammatory pigmentation
MOXI may form part of a treatment plan for melasma or pigmentation remaining after inflammation. These concerns require careful assessment and may need a period of skin preparation before treatment.
MOXI is not intended to correct deep wrinkles, significant laxity or severe acne scarring. Another treatment may be more appropriate where these are the main concerns.
MOXI, darker skin tones and melasma
Because MOXI primarily targets water rather than pigment, it can be used across a broad range of skin tones. Assessment remains essential because any treatment that creates heat or inflammation can trigger post-inflammatory pigmentation in susceptible skin.
Preparation, treatment intensity and aftercare are adjusted according to skin tone, recent sun exposure and pigmentation history.
At Noaem, MOXI is the principal laser considered when melasma is suitable for in-clinic treatment. This does not make it risk-free. Melasma is recurrent and can be aggravated by heat, inflammation and ultraviolet or visible-light exposure.
Patients may require preparatory skincare containing tyrosinase-inhibiting ingredients. Daily high-level sun protection is essential, along with physical protection such as a hat. Avoidable heat exposure may also need to be limited.
The aim is visible improvement and longer-term control rather than permanent removal.
Clinical imaging and assessment
Every facial laser consultation at Noaem Skin includes Observ520x imaging. Its different light modes help visualise patterns of pigmentation, redness and sun-related change that may be less apparent in ordinary light.
The images help distinguish concerns that can look similar at the surface but require different approaches. Imaging is repeated during the course and at the final review so that progress can be compared with the original baseline.
The scanner supports clinical assessment but does not make treatment decisions independently.
Topical anaesthetic cream is applied before treatment. Once the skin has been prepared, protective eyewear is provided and the MOXI handpiece is passed across the treatment area in controlled passes.
Most patients notice warmth and light prickling. Treatment usually takes approximately 15 minutes for the face and up to 30 minutes for larger areas. The complete appointment is longer because it includes assessment, preparation and anaesthetic time.
The skin looks red immediately afterwards and may feel similar to mild sunburn. Some swelling can occur, particularly when treating close to the eyes.
During the following day, the skin develops a dry, rough or lightly bronzed texture. Tiny darkened points may become visible as treated tissue moves towards the surface.
This texture usually sheds naturally between days three and seven. It should not be scrubbed, picked or exfoliated. Makeup can normally be applied after 24 hours if the skin is intact and recovering as expected.
Once the surface settles, the skin can appear clearer and feel smoother. Further improvement develops over the following weeks and across a corrective course.
MOXI must not be performed on recently tanned or sunburnt skin. Fake tan must not have been used on the treatment area during the preceding four weeks.
Recent sun exposure, travel plans, medication changes and active skincare should be discussed before treatment. Some products will need to be paused temporarily.
After treatment, skincare should remain simple while the surface recovers. Noaem’s post-laser skincare protocol will be recommended before the appointment so that the required products are available at home.
Broad-spectrum SPF50 and careful sun protection are required throughout the course.
MOXI may be performed outside the principal laser season, but treatment is not appropriate when recent tanning or expected sun exposure creates unnecessary risk.
A corrective course usually consists of three to four treatments spaced approximately one month apart. The number recommended depends on the concern, treatment intensity and the response of the skin.
Some patients notice a worthwhile change after one appointment. More established pigmentation or textural change usually requires a course.
Maintenance treatment can be planned after the corrective course. Daily sun protection and appropriate skincare help preserve the improvement.
Combining MOXI with BBL HEROic
MOXI and BBL HEROic address different components of sun damage.
MOXI works fractionally to improve texture and broader skin quality. BBL HEROic targets suitable brown pigmentation and vascular redness.
When both are appropriate, BBL HEROic is delivered first and MOXI follows during the same appointment. The combination is recommended only when each treatment adds a useful element to the plan.
