The New Microneedling Pen - The DermaPen 4
We are over the moon to be able to start 2025 with a new Microneedling Pen – the DermaPen 4 and the products that work alongside it. They are the ultimate skin prescription.
At Noaem Skin, Iki has studied microneedling in great depth as it is a treatment that she has a genuine passion for. It is highly evidence-based and therefore we can confidently recommend it as a skin regenerating treatment – when the pen is in the right hands!
This treatment creates a controlled wound healing response that results in collagen replacement in the skin. As well as this, it enables the release of regulatory growth factors (your own growth factors) in the skin which have a multitude of beneficial effects including helping control pigmentation, milia, acne, vitiligo, alopecia, stretch marks and even scars.
Now without sounding super geeky, we want to tell you about why we chose this pen and also what this means for microneedling treatment options going forward and trust me you will want to hear this because let’s just say – this is a different level and very exciting!
The DermaPen device
The device itself is super slick looking with a digital display showing the many different depth options (we were limited to much fewer with our previous pen) which makes the treatment more comfortable and allows us greater control, especially around areas such as the eyes.
The motor is so powerful that it creates 1920 microscopic holes in the skin per second. This means that the treatment is very quick and discomfort and downtime are both reduced.
An especially important factor in terms of safety is the prevention of the backflow of fluids in the pen. Sometimes, we see some pinpoint bleeding when treating the skin and it is of course crucial that there is no cross-contamination between clients. The DermaPen4 device has an Anti-Contamination Management system within it that guarantees protection that this cannot happen. There are a wide variety of microneedling pens on the market, some of which are very cheap. If you have this treatment elsewhere, never be afraid to ask the brand of the pen and ask the practitioner to show you evidence that there is no cross contamination between clients. Ideally, look for FDA validation and a CE mark.
Why is this treatment so different to standard microneedling?
At Noaem Skin, Iki has studied microneedling in great depth as it is a treatment that she has a genuine passion for. It is highly evidence-based and therefore we confidently recommend it as a skin regenerating treatment.
Mesotherapy alongside microneedling
We have always used the highest quality mesotherapy solutions as part of our microneedling treatment to add extra hydration and nutrition to the skin. Now we have our Dermapen 4, we have access to an exceptional collection of mesotherapy glides – the MG-Collection. These, and all of the products we use within the treatment are all cruelty-free and manufactured to the highest GMP (Good Manufacturing Practice) standards.
They all contain high concentrations of triple molecular weight hyaluronic acid – the hydration giving ingredient alongside specific ingredients to treat specific skin concerns. Whether we need to treat skin prone to pigmentation, acne, redness, deep wrinkles or even scars, there is a mesotherapy solution that will fit the bill. They can also be combined to treat your skin in a prescribed manner ensuring all concerns are addressed.
The solutions contain ingredients such as kojic acid, tranexamic acid, peptides and Vitamin E but also Vitamin C and retinaldehyde which are two ingredients that we have never applied to skin during needling previously due to irritability. However, the clever people at DermaPen 4 have created exceptional delivery systems that mean we can deliver these ingredients safely into the skin, without irritation yet with maximum results!
Peeling after microneedling
I’m sorry, what? That was our first reaction too! But this is the step that gives the ‘glass like’ appearance to the skin after this treatment by treating the skin from the top down as well as from the bottom up.
We already know that the scientists at DermaPen are way ahead in terms of their formulation expertise – just look at the mesotherapy solutions. They have also managed to create a peel – The Uber Pro Peel – that can be applied straight after the needling has been completed and generally, it barely tingles and just feels a little warm.
The Uber Pro Peel is ideal for treating pigmentation, aged skin, acneic and problematic skin. It provides smoother, softer and brighter skin, even with just one application. It is suitable for all skin tones too and with ingredients such as mandelic acid, lactic acid, pyruvic acid, kojic acid, retinaldehyde and copper peptides, if you are eligible, we would highly recommend this step. Good aftercare is essential following this treatment.
There is also a stronger version of this peel called the Uber MD and this is reserved for more advanced skin issues only which we would spot treat.
A post-treatment sculptured mask
Post-procedure masks are always fiddly to apply to the skin however we now use the DermaPen sculptured masks that contain seams and fit snugly to the skin of the face and neck. They deliver hyaluronic acid to pump hydration back into the skin and also copper peptides, zinc and pro-vitamin B5 which reduce inflammation and redness and also reduce downtime.
Post-treatment skincare products
As with everything we have talked about so far, the products we apply after the procedure are well thought out and complement the treatment beautifully. After removing the mask, we apply Vitamin Rich Repair – a replenishing solution that includes ingredients to assist with intensive repair and structure, and hydration infusion. We send you home with this product too.
Lastly, as always, we apply SPF. However this SPF is a step above. Cover Recover is an exceptional SPF which cools the temperature of the skin while reducing redness and downtime and aiding the recovery of the skin.
